Facebook and Instagram Ads in Kenya: What They Cost and How to Pay With M-Pesa
You can start Meta ads in Kenya with as little as about KSh 100 a day, but a few hundred shillings a day is the realistic floor for useful results. Here's how billing works, the 16% VAT, and your payment options.
Facebook and Instagram ads are run through Meta Ads Manager. There's no fixed price: you set a budget, and Meta charges you as your ad is shown or clicked. What you get for the money depends on your audience, your creative and your offer.
Facebook advertising cost in Kenya
- Technical minimum: roughly a dollar a day (about KSh 100 to KSh 130)
- Realistic test budget: KSh 300 to KSh 1,000 a day for one to two weeks, so Meta has enough data to optimise
- VAT: Meta charges 16% VAT on ads for Kenyan advertisers, so budget for it
- Card charges: Kenyan bank cards billed in dollars often add 3–5% in foreign transaction fees
How to pay for Facebook ads in Kenya
- Visa or Mastercard debit, credit or prepaid cards from Kenyan banks
- Virtual dollar cards funded from M-Pesa, from several fintech providers
- M-Pesa as a manual prepayment option: some ad accounts set to Kenya and KES show it. If yours doesn't, it's usually because the account currency was set to dollars at setup
TikTok advertising cost in Kenya
TikTok Ads Manager also works on budgets you set, with daily minimums per campaign and ad group. TikTok rewards native-looking videos. A polished TV-style ad often performs worse than a phone-shot clip of a real person using the product.
Spend less, sell more
- Send ad clicks to WhatsApp, which is where Kenyan customers like to ask questions
- Show the price, or a price range, in the ad to filter out time-wasters
- Target by location: there's no point paying for clicks from towns you don't deliver to
- Judge ads by enquiries and sales, not likes
If you'd rather not learn Ads Manager by burning money, our campaign setup starts from KSh 10,000 and ongoing ad management from KSh 20,000/mo, with ad spend paid directly to Meta.
